Apr. 2007 Joystick Options
Our JL and JM Joysticks are now available with our New Non-Contact Switched Output sensor card. This new card is available in 2 formats: Signal Level Output (for PLC and low current applications) and Hi Current Output (for direct to coil and hi current applications) both cards utilize the latest in Hall Effect Technology eliminating the need for mechanical contact type switches.

Apr. 2007 Sure Grip Controls is pleased to announce the release of our CANbus Joystick.
The mobile machinery market is changing quickly; manufacturers want to provide customers with machinery that can be customized to run special attachments with unique operating conditions. To this end manufacturers have computerized many of their machines and offer the owner/operator selectable custom options from touch sensitive screens for quick convenient changes to the way the machine operates. In many cases the operator interface (joystick, handle, switches & foot peddles) has changed from manual or hydraulic to electronic. The electronic components and computer must communicate back and forth to implement changes the operator has selected and to run and keep track of machine operating conditions. The components, in all areas of the machine are connected on a network or CAN (control area network) there are many languages or communication protocols in use today one of the most common and widely used is J1939. This standard is the base that many different systems are built on.

As most of you know complex machines have complex wiring, one of the huge advantages of CANbus systems is that the large bundles of wire are replaced by only 4 wires! So a Sure Grip Controls handle used in a log processor application with 20 switches mounted on our JM or JL electronic joystick only has 4 wires to connect to the machine!

Jan. 2006 New And Improved Larger Buttons On Overlays
About a year ago Sure Grip Controls introduced our Large Button Overlays on all stock controls. We worked hard to let all our customers know about the change but some of you are still not familiar with the larger buttons.

This improvement was a customer driven change. Many operators said the smaller buttons hurt their thumb after many hours of use. Although our switches require a very light touch (500 grams), operators tend to push the buttons much harder than is required because they grip the handles very tightly in rough operating conditions. The following pictures show the difference between the buttons. The larger buttons lower the pressure on the operators thumb by about 60%. The force required to operate the switch (500 grams) remains the same, but the pounds per square inch on your thumb is lowered due to the larger surface area making them much more comfortable.

The smaller buttons are still available by special order. When placing an order for Overlays or Handles simply add "–sb" to the end of the part number.
E.g. L-ME-A6-sb = L Series 6 button Overlay small buttons.
E.g. L2-M6-10-sb = L Series 8 Function Handle small buttons.
